The Masturbation Diet - Fact or Fiction

Is there really a Masturbation Diet?  If you do a web search using the search term “ Masturbation Diet” you will find a ton of links with references to a Japanese scientist Dr. Shukan Tokuho who had developed the so called “Masturbation Diet”.  Supposedly Dr. Shukan Tokuho had published a paper / study on his Masturbation Diet claiming that 5 minutes of vigorous masturbation can consume 300 calories, which is the equivalent of 20 minutes on a tread mill.  He also claims that masturbation can be so refreshing that it can curb your appetite thus cutting even more calories from your diet. There has been a lot of comments made on the web referring to people try the masturbation diet as "Weight Wackers".

You will also find links to a ton comments from a Dr. Hideo Yamanaka who climes that Ejaculation raises the basic metabolism of muscles and helps you consumes more calories.

I have not been able to find on line the actual published paper of Dr. Shukan Tokuho in reference to his masturbation diet.  In fact there are many post stating that the whole masturbation diet is an urban legends.

But you will find posted on many reputable health and fitness sites that the act of masturbating does burn calories as does other forms of sexual activity.   The reputable health and diet site "Fatsecret.com" list the calories burn for all types of sexual activities such as kissing, oral sex , intercourse and yes Masturbation.  Here is what they say:

"MASTURBATION: You don’t have to have a partner to enjoy the calorie-burning effects of sex. Masturbation can burn up the calories, as well. You can lose between 100-150 calories for each act of masturbation, according to the Young People’s Reproductive and Sexual Health & Rights Organization. You can raise that amount to around 300 calories, though, through a 5 minute vigorous masturbation session, according to Japanese scientist Dr. Shukan Tokuho."

The more you search the web for info on calories burned during sex you will find that the numbers are all over the place. The fact is that the number of calories you will burn during masturbation will vary based on may factors including your height, weight, how long you masturbate and how vigorous your masturbation session is.

 As with any physical activity to burn calories, the ideal burn rate is that sweet spot when your heart rate is optimal and your internal body temp is elevated and then how long this sweet spot can be maintained. 

The one thing you will find in total agreement on all the health sites is that Masturbation does burn calories and in addition, masturbation  has some other beneficial side effects.  These beneficial side effect are: Stress Reliever, Immunity Boost, Improves Heart Health, Reduces Pain, Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk, Helps you sleep better.  The beneficial side effects can be read about in detail at WebMD.com

If you not yet sold on the Masturbation Diet as a way to loose weight you may want to consider masturbating for your prostate health.    Australian researchers questioned over 1,000 men who had developed prostate cancer and 1,250 who had not about their sexual habits. They found those who had ejaculated the most between the ages of 20 and 50 were the least likely to develop the cancer. The protective effect was greatest while the men were in their 20s. Men who ejaculated more than five times a week were a third less likely to develop prostate cancer later in life.
